Seth Godin recently posted about an Iphone application idea he had:
"Have the iPhone use the gps data... upload where I was a minute ago and where I am now. Figure out my speed and route. Use the data to tell other RadaR users which route is best."
You can read the full post here: http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2008/11/an-iphone-app-t.html
We're really excited about the potential for this app and what all of you here at DIYcity can do to make it come to life.
Cheers,
Chris Allison
Road Sage
By AnonymousThat's similar to my Road Sage project from 2004... Both concepts have this need in common: A navigation/direction system designed to tell locals the FASTEST/CHEAPEST WAY NOW to get from point A to point B.
This is VERY different from what we have now, with Google Maps, in-car GPS navigators, etc. They're all designed around a very different goal: explaining to people from out of town, in detail, the SIMPLEST way to get from point A to point B, without taking today's unique traffic conditions into account.
Locals don't need all the detail; they don't have time to read a long set of directions with steps like "8. Take a right turn onto Oak Street 0.387 miles after you turn onto Elm." They just want to hear: "It's faster to take Andrews Avenue instead of Main Street today" or "You'll do better with the N line today than driving."
