Something like what the Crime group was talking about last night:
"Lethal (click opens iTunes) from Elany Arts takes a location from
either the iPhone's built-in location services or a list of 300 cities
or parks throughout the USA, then provides you with a "lethal index"
number. This number ranges between 0 and 400, with 400 being an
extremely dangerous location."

While I haven't downloaded
By AnonymousWhile I haven't downloaded the app yet, this looks pretty interesting.
On that note, is anyone from the Crime group (or anyone else, for that matter) interested in discussing/thinking more about the application we had discussed at the last meeting? I am really interested in a "Get Home Safe" application (text message based/twitter) that could either be for train riders or those walking home. Some people in the group had some great ideas that I think could really turn into something useful.

Android application: SafetyNet
By JordanWired has a nice write-up of cool location-aware apps on its website. There's one called SafetyNet that sounds similar. Here's how it works (from the article):
Use SafetyNet's map to select bad neighborhoods. Then, if you end up in a sketchy area, your mobile will switch into watchdog mode. If trouble arises, all you have to do is shake the handset and your phone will set off an alarm, start sending your location to friends and family every 30 seconds via Google Talk, take a picture, turn on its speaker, and dial 911 (or another emergency number) . The app announces each of these steps out loud so a would-be assailant can hear what's happening and give up.

I'd be interested in seeing this move forward. You might try posting it to the Discussions Group and asking for some ideas on how it could best be done. That has worked pretty well in the past to generate good ideas from people who have done similar work.
Then you can boil it all down, move ahead with the best ideas and start thinking about building something.
